Steve Gilliard, 1964-2007

It is with tremendous sadness that we must convey the news that Steve Gilliard, editor and publisher of The News Blog, passed away June 2, 2007. He was 42.

To those who have come to trust The News Blog and its insightful, brash and unapologetic editorial tone, we have Steve to thank from the bottom of our hearts. Steve helped lead many discussions that mattered to all of us, and he tackled subjects and interest categories where others feared to tread.

Please keep Steve's friends and family in your thoughts and prayers.

We will miss him terribly.

Uncommon Sense: " Limbaugh - Recovering Addict?"

A completely unrelated image to the story that follows

Thanks to Uncommon Sense for this post

It shouldn't surprise anybody that Rush Limbaugh eats like a pig.

The Post's Braden Keil reports that Limbaugh and a female companion lived large at Kobe Club last Thursday night, devouring bacon with truffles, Japanese strip steak, Kobe beef cheek ravioli, a large seafood platter, a combo of American, Australian and Japanese wagyu steaks and several "side" dishes. After finishing their $700 feast, Limbaugh left the server a $1,000 tip. On a previous night, Limbaugh and another female friend were spotted by patrons sharing a $4,000 bottle of wine at '21.'
What I find interesting is that this supposedly recovering drug addict is drinking alcohol in public. I am not aware of a drug treatment protocol that includes the consumption of alcohol. If I am missing something, please let me know.

If this is the way Limbaugh parties in public, just imagine what he's doing behind closed doors. I wrote about this last year when was detained for possession of Viagra without a prescription.

He demonstrates no greater respect for the law than any other junkie. It just so happens that he was caught with Viagra, and not oxycontin. This time. What about next time? Anybody who believes Rush Limbaugh is not still getting high is a moron. Untreated junkies continue to get high until they go to prison or until they die. Anybody in his life who cares about this man will commit him to a residential facility where he will get treatment for his addiction before he ends up behind bars or dead.
Limbaugh is exhibiting the risk-taking behavior of somebody who is still abusing drugs. The people who are enabling him might think they are helping him, or they might just be taking advantage of an addict with tons of cash and no self-control. Either way, Limbaugh is a tragedy waiting to happen. The man is going to die of a drug overdose or in some drug- or alcohol-related accident. Mark my words.
